This workshop is designed to give Human Trafficking Investigators an understanding of psychological effects of Human Trafficking, so more Victim Centered-Offender Focused Investigations occur, ensuring the victims needs are met, and aiming to conduct investigations and prosecutions of offenders without victim cooperation, and without the arrest of victims. Then shifting their investigations from the victim, to the offender to ensure the victim is not necessary for investigative and purposes of prosecution. In addition we will discuss how to conduct these operations using minimal funding, and manpower.

Detective Joseph Scaramucci, McLennan County Sheriff’s Office
Detective Scaramucci began his career in law enforcement in 2004, and since initiating investigations in Human Trafficking in 2014 he has conducted sting operations resulting in the arrest of approximately 130 individuals for Human Trafficking and related offenses, which lead to the identification of approximately 245 trafficking victims. Detective Scaramucci has worked both State and Federal investigation of human trafficking. He is certified in Courts of Law as a Subject Matter Expert in Human Trafficking. He has further provided training for more than 263 agencies throughout the 28 states, 10 federal agencies, branches of the U.S. Military, the Mongolian Federal Police and Prosecutor’s Offices.


Allie Braden, Survivor Leader and Prevention Specialist, For the Silent
Allie Braden serves as the Survivor Leader and Prevention Specialist at For the Silent.  For the Silent is a non profit organization, fighting child sex trafficking and exploitation through prevention, survivor care, and community transformation. At the age of 20 she was recruited into pimp controlled sex trafficking.

In 2016, Allie began volunteering as a facilitator in For The Silent’s prevention program, I Have A Voice, sharing her personal story of being trafficked with at risk youth. In 2017 Allie was hired as a full time Survivor Advocate with For The Silent —applying a newly developed mobile advocacy model to better serve victims. She testified as an expert witness and advocated for a survivor client, leading to a trafficker’s sentence to life in prison. Allie is an integral part of For The Silent’s training program that brings awareness and education to the community, service providers and other community partners about the subculture of sex trafficking, pimps and victims.
